I chose this cancer because i have heard about it a lot. I've heard it in TV shows, movies, books and conversations at school. However, I never really thought about it. i selected it because first of all, I've heard about it before, but also, because I'm curious to see how much I really know about it. Maybe some of this is new, and maybe some is not.
What is this Cancer?Leukemia is the cancer of the blood cells. There are two types of leukemia, acute and chronic. Acute leukemia is a fast-growing cancer, while Chronic leukemia is slower growing. Leukemia can also appear in any of the blood cells. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is the cancer of the white blood cells, and red blood cells and platelets can become cancerous also. The cause for this cancer is unknown. all that is known is that the cancerous cells crowd the actual cells in the bone marrow (View Mitosis summary).
SymptomsPatients with Leukemia may experience fatigue, anemia, night sweats, fever, weakness, prolonged bleeding, and a more likely chance to get infections.

TreatmentTreatment depends on the type of leukemia the patient has, acute or chronic, and what type of blood cell the leukemia is occurring in. patients with acute leukemia can undergo chemotherapy, and stem cell transplants.
The websites I viewed had no suggestions of who to contact. If you feel like you have the symptoms of leukemia, first of all, contact your doctor. Here are some clinics I found though. Mayo Clinic St. Jude Children's Research Hospital PreventionBecause so little is known about leukemia, there is no know way to prevent it. The website I found suggested no radiation or avoiding smoking, but there is no facts on prevention yet.
